Understand Your Bill

The following information will help you better understand your billing statement. If you are confused about any of the information, ask a service representative the next time you are in the office or give us a call.

On the Front of Your Bill

1 – Service Location

Physical address of the account.

2 – Balance Forward

Previously billed charges that have not been paid and are forwarded to the next billing period.

3 – Total Amount Due

Total amount due by the date shown.

4 – Bill Due Date

Date the payment is due.

5 – Meter Multiplier

A meter multiplier applies to large, high amperage services requiring special meters that record a portion of actual usage. The kWh usage is multiplied by the meter multiplier to calculate the total kWh use shown on the electric bill.

6 – kWh Usage

The amount of kilowatt hours consumed during your billing cycle. A kilowatt hour is a unit of measure to explain the amount of electricity consumed over time. One kilowatt of electricity supplied for one hour equals one kilowatt-hour. It takes one kWh to power a 100-watt light bulb for 10 hours.

7 – Consumer Charge

A member’s share of Dixie Electric’s fixed costs including poles, wires, transformers, meters, substations, etc., needed to deliver electricity to your home, whether or not a single kilowatt-hour is used. It also includes cost for reading meters electronically, maintaining the distribution system, and the repayment of long-term debt.

8 – Power Cost Adjustment

A modification on a consumer’s monthly electric bill caused by an increase or decrease in the cost of an electric utility’s wholesale power.
