Dixie Electric was founded on seven cooperative principles, one of those being education, training, and information. Each year, we commit to finding ways to help the members of our communities learn easy and practical ways to save money on their electric bills. In June, we were able to host four Energy Fairs, a free event offered to anyone interested in learning how to be more energy efficient and save money on their electric bill. Our booths consisted of lighting efficiency, caulking and weatherstripping, insulation, water heaters, air conditioners and heating, kitchen appliances, pool pumps, Co-op Connections, and our energy calculators.
Our first stop was Pineville M.B. Church in Buckatunna, where members of their congregation were invited to attend. Several of their members stopped by to register for a door prize, learn about ways they could save on their electric bill, and receive a free LED light bulb. We also educated their members on how to prepare for a hurricane, what items to keep on hand, and how we restore service after a major storm.
Our next stop was to greet the shoppers of Lowe's in Petal. As shoppers entered the store, we invited them to visit our energy efficiency tables and let our employees share some brief tips on things they could do around their homes to save energy. Cooperative Energy was also on-site with their electric vehicle.
Our next stop was Gatlin's Building Supply in Waynesboro. Members of the community showed up to visit our booths, shop for different items in the store to make their homes more energy efficient, and collect information and brochures on things they could do to save money on their electric bills.
Our last stop was Lowe's in Laurel. LED Lucy made her last appearance at our Kids Korner booth and took a photo with a few kiddos who had just learned about electrical safety and different ways to help Mom and Dad save electricity. Shoppers who entered the store were encouraged to stop by and go through our energy fair booths, ask questions, and shop the store for items that could help them save on their electric bill.
Here at Dixie Electric, we are committed to the communities in which we serve. After all, we were built by the community, for the community. We strive to offer events and services that benefit not only our members but also the community itself. We know that having an affordable energy bill is important to most, so we host our energy fairs in the hopes of helping members of the community learn practical and easy ways to make their homes more energy efficient.
