When people hear the word growth, they often think about bigger numbers. More members. More miles of line. More homes connected to high-speed internet. Those milestones are certainly worth celebrating because they represent a healthy cooperative.
But I've always believed the best kind of growth isn't measured by numbers alone. Real growth is measured by what you're able to do because of it.
As Dixie Electric and DE Fastlink continue to grow, so does our ability to invest in the people, organizations, and communities that have supported us for generations.
As a member-owned cooperative, every decision we make is guided by the people and communities we call home. Yes, we invest in the infrastructure that powers homes, businesses, and schools, but we also believe in investing in the people behind those meters. That's what separates cooperatives from many other businesses. Success isn't measured solely by the services we provide. It's also measured by the positive impact we have on the communities we serve.
That's why you'll find our employees in classrooms teaching electrical safety, mentoring tomorrow's leaders through our youth programs, partnering with local schools, supporting first responders, volunteering with community organizations, and showing up at events that bring our communities together. You'll find us lending a helping hand after disasters, supporting nonprofits that are changing lives, and looking for ways to make our communities stronger than we found them.
Those efforts aren't separate from our mission. They are an extension of it.
One of the seven Cooperative Principles is Concern for Community. It reminds us that while our responsibility is to provide safe, reliable electric and fiber services, we also have a responsibility to help our communities thrive. Strong communities don't happen by accident. They are built through partnerships, volunteerism, education, and people who genuinely care about their neighbors.
The photos on these pages capture just a few of those moments from the past year. While they represent different events, organizations, and causes, they all tell the same story. They reflect employees who are proud to serve beyond their job descriptions and a cooperative that believes being part of a community means investing in it.
As Dixie Electric continues to grow, so does our ability to make a difference. Every new member we serve, every improvement we make to our system, and every investment we make in our future creates new opportunities to give back. That's a responsibility we don't take lightly.
Keeping the lights on and connecting families through high-speed internet will always be at the heart of what we do, but if our growth also means stronger schools, better opportunities for students, safer communities, and more support for our neighbors, then we've accomplished something even greater.
The greatest measure of our success isn't just the power we deliver; it's the power we have to empower the communities we proudly call home.
