Dixie Electric Prepares for Hurricane Francine

Laurel, Miss. - As Hurricane Francine approaches, Dixie Electric Power Association has activated its emergency response plan and is taking necessary steps to ensure we are prepared for potential impacts. Our team is fully ready to respond to any outages once it is safe to do so.

Restoration efforts will not begin until damage assessments have been made and weather conditions allow for the safe deployment of our crews. This will likely be after the storm passes and winds have dropped to safe levels on Thursday.

Additionally, Dixie Electric will delay opening its offices on Thursday, September 12, until noon to ensure the safety of our employees and members.

We strongly encourage members who rely on life-saving medical devices to have a backup plan in place, as we cannot guarantee uninterrupted power throughout the storm. Safety is our priority, and we are urging all members to take the following precautions:

Generator Safety: If you are using a generator, DO NOT plug it directly into your home’s wiring. Doing so can create dangerous backfeed and pose a risk to our linemen.

Secure Outdoor Items: Before the storm arrives, make sure any outdoor furniture, equipment, or loose items are secured to prevent them from becoming projectiles.

Update Your Contact Information: Ensure we have your current contact details, as this will help us keep you informed about outages and restoration times.

Follow Us on Social Media: Stay connected through our social media channels for real-time updates on power outages and restoration efforts.
