Dixie Electric members will have to decide to be in favor, or not in favor, of amending the Certificate of Incorporation to allow Dixie Electric to provide high-speed internet. The proposal will add a new Article 7 that will allow the cooperative to offer high-speed internet. When Dixie Electric was formed in the 1930s, the founding Certificate of Incorporation only allowed for electric service. The state law has been changed to allow cooperatives to offer high-speed internet services, so Dixie Electric’s incorporation documents need to be updated.
A change to the Certificate of Incorporation requires a vote of the full membership. To pass, the resolution requires a 60% majority of voters to mark “in favor.”
Your vote will determine whether or not Dixie Electric’s staff continues to develop a plan for high-speed internet that includes our entire service territory.
- If members vote “in favor,” the Certificate of Incorporation will be amended, and we will continue to move forward with the decision-making process. A decision will be made in early 2021.
- If members vote “not in favor,” the Certificate of Incorporation will not be amended, and our research and the decision-making process for a full-scale project in our service area will stop.
